Avoid this like the plague
The other day I was talking to a client, asking them why they hadn’t done any of the inputs they needed to do in order to scale (paid ads, newsletter, outbound prospecting).
They replied that they were busy and they didn’t have any ideas for their newsletter.
I imagine this applies to a lot of you, so I thought I would share my response:
What does busy mean? What are the actual tasks do you spend time on? You need to do a time audit and figure this out. If you can't block 5 hrs per day to work:
> Time audit
> Find lowest $/hr tasks
> Hire someone to do it
Deep work hours are your highest ROI. If it’s not paying you money, just stop doing it. You might need to hire someone! I know it’s scary! But we’re running a business here.
Not having enough ideas for your newsletter is cope. I never have ideas for my newsletter, you have to create them.
Ideas fall from the sky on a daily basis, you just have to write them down and build a bank. If you’re in a creative rut, then you might have to put some manual effort in.
Use this.
The real problem here though, is just a lack of proactive problem solving and low standards.
If you had standards that said “I must complete X inputs per week” then you would immediately be aware that there is a problem when you don’t reach that input goal.
Then when you don’t reach the goal, you can proactively solve the problem:
“Oh I didn’t have enough newsletter ideas this week. Maybe I should allocate 10 mins per day to coming up with ideas and watch a guide on YouTube”
It’s one of those things that isn’t rocket science, but requires a bit of presence and conscious thinking.
I have fallen victim to this a few times before, where you’re just too stuck in the weeds to be able to see what is going on, and trust me the only way to solve it is by:
Setting the standard
Tracking your inputs
Finding a solution asap if there is any deviation from the standard
It’s simple, not easy.
