Do You Deserve The Outcome You Want?

Almost every day, someone will ask me a question like:

Why is X not working better?

Why am I not getting more of Y?

How come ABC isn’t already getting me XYZ?

And my answer is almost always the same:

“Let’s say you did get the outcome you wanted. Would it make sense for that to happen? Would you fully deserve it?"

To that, most people cannot honestly say that they would deserve the outcome they want.

That’s not a bad thing, it’s just the reality.

You have to earn these kinds of things. Revenue and clients do not just fall from the sky.

Life can be brutal sometimes, and it’s rare that you get a clean break. Sometimes you do, but it’s rare.

So most of the time you will have to earn it.

And even if you don’t have to earn it, it’s better to put yourself in the position to do so anyway, so when you get lucky you are actually competent (unlike the average crypto type).

When you look at your business and life through this frame, it prepares you to do what is necessary, and sometimes forces you to think differently.

For example, if a certain achievement takes most people two years, and you want to achieve it in one year, you will have to think:

“Do I deserve to get it in one year? How could I put myself in a position to deserve it?”

Then, you might realise that if you were to deserve the result in under one year, you would need to do 2-3x the amount of work than the average person, and cram that work into 12 months instead of 24.

That would be hard. And you would realise that is the case.

And you would either accept it and get to work, or you would quit and forego your chance to complain about not getting the outcome yet.

Either way, the clarity you gain from just understanding what is required is quite valuable.
