How To Figure Out What To Focus On
This email is about what to focus on. I will talk about some other stuff, but trust me I will get to it.
I just posted one of my most important tweets.
It covers an underrated topic in internet marketing:
Having a long term mindset.
Specifically, looking at a 10+ year time horizon and determining:
What skills you want
What network you want
What industries you want to be in
The kind of positioning and 'life setup' you want
These things aren’t really looked at much because most are too focused on hitting their short term revenue goals.
I understand it, I have done it myself, I have achieved those goals and now am reflecting on what needs to be done to surpass my next goals, and what those ‘next goals’ even are.
The reason I am telling you this is because if you don’t have clarity on what these things are, you will have a productivity breakthrough once you do.
Once you realise that all that time spent on paid ads or cold outbound is actually building yourself up for whatever the long term north star is, you will be reinvigorated for work.
It’s not just some numbers on a screen.
Like I said before.
This is track record, skillset, network, positioning, all of these things are occurring in real time while you are working.
Every time you hit a new breakthrough, your future life improves.
The same way, every time you slack off, lose focus or procrastinate, your future life gets worse.
And once you have extreme clarity on these 10, 20, 30 year goals, they become more real in your mind. They become the thing you think about while sitting at your desk and running out of energy.
And then you get your energy back. No problem.
But without that clear focus, it gets a bit harder.
When the only goal is to make a bit of extra money that has zero impact on your life, who even cares.
But when it’s your future on the line? It gets easy.
AND THEN you figure out that if you truly want those lofty goals, you will need to focus on very specific skills, industries and outcomes, or it will be otherwise impossible to reach the goals.
Figuring out what to focus on is the easy part, it’s just reverse engineering what you need to do to hit the goals.
Finding a worthy cause is the hard part.
And if you need help doing that, you should watch this video on my YouTube channel (link). It covers that topic exactly.
These kinds of things are always underrated, but in my experience they can have the biggest impact.
