Why Looking At Competitors Is Low IQ
“Our service delivery is so much better than our competitors”
“Wow their content is seriously not even good. We make way better stuff than that”
Possibly some of the most low IQ statements you can make.
You might as well be jerking off to the thought of hitting their revenue level.
Talking about how you are better than someone who makes more money than you gets you nothing.
Zero wins.
But I see this happen a lot.
Particularly smaller agencies between 10-50k/mo.
It changes nothing about what you need to do and changes nothing about the fact they are ahead of you.
All you get by talking shit about the competition is a bit of validation that maybe you could be as big as them someday.
The problem with this is, if you look at a larger competitor who has low standards for their products, services and marketing, then you will probably just aim to beat them rather than 5-10x them.
For example, if they send 1,000 cold emails per day you might think:
“Ok if we send 2,000 emails, we’re beating {competitor}”
Or if they get their service delivered in a month, you might be happy if you can do it in two weeks.
The reason for this is because you are constantly comparing yourself to them, and then you end up using them as a ‘bar’ for what to beat.
In reality, you need to 5-10x them, especially if they are bigger than you or they have been in business longer.
When you do it this way, you will almost laugh at how fast you end up beating your competition, and then watching them scramble to try and copy you.
Works a charm.
Before I let you go, if you haven’t seen this video about what I learned from the winning agencies after working with 150+ clients, I would check it out (link)
It’s a 4-min watch, and it will change your perspective on how to win.
Throw it on 2x speed and enjoy.
