Making 100k/mo from my mummy's basement

Recently someone commented on one of my YouTube videos:

Oh yea 100K a month and still living in mommy's basement lmao”

Actually pretty fair feedback.

I don’t quite live at Mum’s house, but it looks pretty similar.

My house is also less than a five minute drive from my Mum's.

I actually appreciate the comment though, because it made me think of two things that are worth sharing:

#1 Appearances matter (a lot)

When I first started in the internet marketing game, I was always the one to say stuff like:

“I will let my results do the talking, I don’t need Dubai, Lambos or anything like that”

Which is why I have never really flexed too much or increased my lifestyle as I’ve made more money.

I just don’t see a reason to or get any dopamine from it.

Maybe it is from my background at school (was very focused on good grades + sport) where I would only ever get dopamine from progressing.

If it was up to me, I would live in a small room with a mattress on the floor and a standing desk + order Uber Eats a few times per day.

As a result, I have never really cared too much about appearances, dressing in nice clothes or trying to act richer than I am.

I think that is a healthy mindset…

But at the same time there are definitely benefits to having a ‘flashier’ lifestyle or spending a bit more money.

For example, if someone follows me on Instagram and they are whipping around Dubai or look like they have a sick lifestyle, it immediately catches my attention and makes me think “hmm what’s this guy do” and look into them a bit.

Compare that to someone like me, who just posts YouTube videos in the exact same spot at his desk, and I can see why people are like “hmm sus” haha.

You might think “oh well Hormozi did that and people don’t think he’s poor” but there is a difference between 100m and what I’ve got.

And there is also a big difference between what he looks like vs what I look like.

I’m not saying it’s a good idea to become a Dubai flexxooor, but it is definitely worth understanding how you appear to the world when it comes to getting clients.

I won’t be making too many changes or getting a lambo, but I have already upgraded my setup and will be adding in some more content where I leave my office 😂

Which brings me to number two:

#2: I am doing my brand a little bit incorrectly

I think on YouTube I have been a little bit too focused on delivering high level trainings like a textbook and treating it like a business rather than a brand.

There is 1000% a place for the trainings and I will never stop doing them, but I would love to document more and show more personalised insights to what it’s like growing 1000x Leads.

That doesn’t even mean I’ll make less trainings, it just means the delivery will be slightly different.

At the end of the day, the worst thing possible would be to fit in with the average SMMA owner on YT.

So what really hit home when I saw that comment was:

“Damn, I have done a bad job at introducing myself”

Which is a skill issue by me.

But, that will be no longer.

From this day forward, I will treat my content like a brand and not like a business, and I will focus on the utility of the videos for business owners.

Sinple.
