You might need new goals
“Hey, remember those goals you swore would make you happy?
You already achieved them.”
I heard this on a podcast clip recently and I immediately thought it was pretty true.
I have completely destroyed every goal I had in the last two years.
And I still feel like nothing has changed.
You can look at that two ways:
Oh nooo you’re never going to be happy or satisified!! The worst!!!
You have a great chance to continually raise the bar and set new goals as you achieve each one
I choose #2.
Yeah sure, it is kind of sad that you have achieved goals you swore you wanted, and it had zero impact on your happiness. But who really cares?
It is 100x more fun to just set a goal, beat it, then set a new goal to beat that one too.
The truth is, you never really feel happy unless you’re progressing anyway. The ‘goal’ is kind of just an arbitrary thing for you to aim at.
I sent an email yesterday about how you have to keep continually raising the bar so you can reach the next level, and I want to hit on that point again.
Once you have solved the money problem, the only thing left is the next goal you have (and non-money problems, which I can’t help you with).
So when this happens, instead of just floating through the aether wondering what to do, do this:
Create a new goal for three years from now. Attach that goal to a ‘dream life’ where you’re living in a better spot, you have a great routine, you focus on the work that fulfils you etc
Start working towards that ideal life right now
That might mean you focus on different areas of your business, hire someone, or completely restructure what you’re doing.
The reason this is powerful is because it introduces the question:
Are you running the type of business you would want to run 3-5 years from now?
If you are, great. Keep going.
If not, there is some work to do. Great. Back to work.
