Sour Grapes
I was talking the other day with a good friend.
It was about why people get stuck between $30-50k/mo.
He was saying “it must be because they suck at service delivery and everyone churns.”
I respectfully disagreed.
In my opinion, people get stuck because of a number of things, but for some reason I have been seeing this one problem come up recently.
It can be things like:
Service delivery
Distractions
Habits
No lead gen
Focusing on the wrong stuff
Getting mislead by courses/coaches/YouTube
Limiting beliefs
Lost motivation
But recently I’ve seen a lot of people get stuck because of ‘Sour Grapes.’
‘Sour Grapes’ a famous fable about a fox that can’t reach some grapes on a high vine, who then claims that it’s lucky he didn’t get the grapes because they are sour.
EG → The fox can’t get the grapes, so instead of admitting he can’t get them (and maybe getting a ladder) he copes and says they are sour.
It’s the same with getting stuck between 30-50k.
You mess up and have problems scaling, whether operationally or with lead gen, then somehow convince yourself that you have enough money, and it’s not a big deal.
Who needs the extra money! I don’t need to flex! I have enough.
It’s an easy trap to fall into. The cashflow (especially if you’re young) is more than enough for what you need.
But - I assure you this is not the best path.
The lack of progression becomes excruciatingly painful
You have a future family to provide for
You have family members you could help if you had more money
There are plenty of luxuries in life you are missing out on
You probably have a lot of limitations still (eg can’t fly business class whenever you want, still need to be conscious of cash)
You probably don’t have crazy take home profit compared to your revenue
Your employees are probably not that good. Need more money to get true A players
Coping about a skill issue will hurt you in the long term
For these reasons and many more - you need to make more money.
And even if this is all untrue - even if you believed it, you would make more money as a result (which isn’t exactly terrible is it?)
The point of this email is to encourage you to avoid coping. Instead of saying the grapes are sour:
Get a ladder so you can climb to higher heights.
Try to get richer. It is a noble pursuit. Don’t listen to people who say otherwise.
At the bare minimum, it’s fun and good for personal development.
And if you want to get richer together, you can go here to learn how I can help you do so (link).
Other than that - hope you have an amazing day, get your skills up, do right by your clients, work on lead gen, constantly improve, and be a net-positive for anyone you meet.
Everything else is yap.
Namaste.
