Stop Expecting To Love Every Day
Every now and then, I hear or see things like:
“I quit the SMMA model because I don’t like running ads.”
“I am not going to make content because I feel weird on camera”
“I moved away from X because it feels better doing Y”
Now - let me be clear, there are certain instances when you can avoid doing tasks you hate.
No doubt - when you build your business up, you should hire people to do the things that don’t bring you energy.
I do not believe in doing things you hate for an extended period of time, you should just hire someone. It is that simple.
BUT, when it comes to just blatantly quitting, or not doing something because it doesn’t ‘feel’ good… you are kidding yourself if you think that is an acceptable way of going through life.
No matter what you do, there is going to be an inevitable phase where it sucks.
Where you burn out.
Where you feel lonely.
Where you have to keep doing brain-dead tasks because you can’t afford to hire.
And trust me when I say that if you can’t tolerate this sort of thing then you will simply lose to the people who can tolerate it.
That doesn’t mean you ‘won’t make it’ but it does put you at a disadvantage.
If you know it hurts you and you still think ‘yeah I’m just not doing that’ then accept the fact that it’s hurting you and just be ok with it.
But don’t convince yourself that it is somehow beneficial for you to have zero tolerance for hard work hahaha. I see it online all the time.
Being too desperate to focus on ‘high leverage tasks’ and ‘getting out of ops’ is a bit of a signal that you just struggle with focus and you’ve watched too much YouTube.
The best of the best do everything, and more importantly, they just do whatever it takes.
The expectation that you are meant to love everyday is completely false. That’s just not how it works.
Yes, you should enjoy your life, but even if you were in any industry doing any thing, you will never escape a bad day.
So why would you not just accept the fact they exist and move on instead of coping and pivoting vehicles every five minutes?
Makes no sense.
If you’re having a shit day, just get a work out in and sleep 8 hours. Run it back when you’re ready.
One of the best videos I have ever seen about this is from Jocko Willink.
You should check it out (link).
And if you’re thinking of quitting or coping, just imagine telling Jocko that you don’t feel like sending emails today because it doesn’t feel as good as brainrot-maxxing and watching some cat videos on IG.
