Turbulence

When I was a kid, I always used to think I would be free of all of the problems I had once I got older.

More freedom, no family issues to worry about, no school, etc.

Of course, it is naive looking back.

But it is pretty common even as you get older. You still dream of peace.

You think once you hit 100k/mo then you won’t have any issues.

Or once you get that new hire.

Or once you get that girl.

Or once you visit that place.

Or once you {the next goal}.

But, as always, as soon as you reach the next thing you are inevitably met with turbulence.

This is just the way of life.

In the sense that you will always look forward to when everything is peaceful, and also in the sense that there will always be chaos.

Can’t get around it.

You always hear from people who say things like:

  • Your goals won’t make you happy

  • Money doesn’t buy happiness

  • There’s always the next thing

However the other ‘home truth’ is that listening to these pieces of theory will not give you the experience of going through the process involved.

It is one thing to understand on the surface level, but living them out can be excruciating.

Whether you have this second-hand mindset training or not, you will have to learn these lessons for yourself, and live them out for yourself.

And always remember that the next goal will come with turbulence.

There is never a magical time period where everything is blissful. Only in death and retirement.

The stress, the challenge, the call to action is what makes you love it.

If it were easy, you would not be attracted to it.

The turbulence is what reminds you that you are alive and that you have things to do.

You don’t want to run away from it, you want to enjoy it.

The only problem you have is when you expect these stressful times to cease to exist.

That is a skill issue. They will always exist.

Better to accept them and enjoy the process.

Better to just accept that the next goal, although it may be arbitrary, is still a worthy pursuit.

And it’s definitely better to just flow through the turbulence and not worry about it too much.

I see a lot of people get twisted into a knot when things are going wrong.

Just remember that everything is going at the correct pace.

Everything according to plan.

Maybe not your plan, but the larger plan.

You don’t need to be super religious to accept that everything is on track. You are where you need to be.
