WARNING: This Could Cost You Years Of Progress

Was speaking with a client earlier.

About a year ago he made a massive pivot in his business (he switched his primary service).

As a result - he has pretty much had to rebuild from zero.

The crazy part is the reason he made this change was because a consultant he paid told him to.

More specifically - the consultant told him to pivot massively because my client wasn’t getting results from the consultant.

So now - my client has lost a year of progress because a consultant told him to pretty much hit a hard reset just because the consultant in question wasn’t able to help them.

This advice was made:

  • Without context

  • Without thinking of the long term implications

  • Without really assessing the clients situation

And it has cost a year (at least) of progress.

That is an expensive consultant.

The point of this email:

I recommend you don’t listen to people that don’t have extreme context on your situation, and to make sure you have aligned incentives.

For example, in this instance the consultant’s incentive was to do anything he could to avoid getting a negative review.

That lead to convincing my client that his service was wrong and getting him to change services. This cost my client multi 6 figures in revenue - minimum.
