Today I was really thinking about leverage and how to get it.
A big problem that agency owners face is that they have no leverage.
Having no leverage is the reason why you see a lot of them pivot towards other vehicles (including me, I got more leverage).
You see a lot of agencies with low margins, high overheads, poor clients etc. and it seems like they are just spinning their wheels.
You also hear them say things like:
“I don’t have time to make employee training”
And things like:
“No I can’t leave my desk I have client delivery to worry about.”
When I hear this, I immediately think damn, we need to think about how to get you more leverage.
At its core, leverage is when you put in the same input, and get more output.
Another good way to think about this it “build once, use forever” in the context of an agency.
Things you can build once and use forever:
An S tier employee training that can automate the onboarding and training of team members
AI models that can streamline your copywriting services
Swipe files so you can make ads faster
A YouTube channel with 100 videos
A VSL that scales on cold traffic
A skillset with paid ads that can get you clients
A skillset with cold email that can get you clients
The reason (in my opinion) that people don’t do these things is because they come with a cost.
But it’s a classic scenario of delayed gratification.
It might take 40 hours to create a really good employee training…
But now you have a company asset that gives you leverage and makes your company far more valuable.
Now, next time you have a team member, you won’t have to spend dozens hours of 1-1 time with them just to cover the basics.
Instead of constantly being on a hamster wheel and having no time to even breathe…
You will have enough leverage to think of new ways to get more clients, improve your services, and make good content.
So you can imagine that if you stacked the leverage points on top of each other, you could actually go to the gym without checking Slack for 30 minutes.
The absolute key to this:
Having 5-7 hours per day completely blocked off.
Completely.
Do not tell me that you don’t have that time.
It doesn’t have to be consecutive.
You will never be able to grow as fast as your potential unless you have that time blocked.
If you say:
“well I have 6 hours of client work, sales calls and team meetings to do”
Ok, that means you work that much that day.
Reality is, if you don’t have that time, it is probably because you need to hire.
If you don’t have the money to hire, then you need to work really hard because you have to get the money 😂
My business partner Matt made a video about leverage, if you’d like to learn more about this topic and get some more specific examples, here is the link.
To be honest I haven’t watched it, but I’m sure it’s decent.
